EOC, an international manufacturer of products including latex and adhesives, had already invested in energy-efficient systems and optimisation initiatives. Yet significant savings potential remained. The biggest challenge was not technology, but people. Engaging employees in energy-saving efforts and encouraging them to actively contribute to sustainability goals proved essential — yet complex in an industrial environment characterised by diverse roles, behaviours and routines.
A personalised behavioural campaign that truly engages employees
Together with Encon, EOC chose a tailored awareness campaign: ENO. Rather than relying on standard communication, the campaign was built on a thorough behavioural and communication assessment.
The campaign adopted a strong emotional narrative focused on the future of children and grandchildren, while making energy consumption tangible through concrete actions and visual storytelling. Employees were actively engaged through creative initiatives, clear objectives and targeted themes such as lighting, steam usage and compressed air leaks.
Key success factors included:
- Clearly defined and measurable objectives
- Continuous feedback on results and progress
- Relatable communication through the ENO character
By giving employees insight into the impact of their behaviour and making results visible, EOC succeeded in creating genuine engagement and lasting behavioural change.
Measurable impact: from engagement to tangible savings
The results speak for themselves. At the Oudenaarde site, the campaign delivered:
- 740,000 kWh of energy savings
- A reduction of 190 tonnes of CO₂ emissions
- An impact equivalent to nearly 8,000 trees
The benefits extended far beyond the numbers:
- Employees became active ambassadors for sustainability
- Energy efficiency became structurally embedded in daily operations
- The campaign was rolled out across additional sites, creating a cumulative impact
This case demonstrates that sustainability is not merely a cost item, but a powerful lever for operational efficiency and profitability. By focusing on behavioural change, EOC achieved rapid, scalable savings without requiring major capital investments.
This is Delivering Profitable Sustainability in practice.

EOC
“The results of this campaign have exceeded our expectations. It is striking how well-recognised the ENO campaign already is within the company, and particularly the effort our staff are making to save energy effectively through their own behaviour.”
