As a multi-purpose event venue, the Lotto Arena had to meet a wide range of lighting requirements: from international-level sports matches to concerts and corporate events. The existing lighting fell short in this regard. For major sporting events, additional lighting had to be hired each time to meet the standards for television broadcasts and professional competitions.
This not only resulted in high operational costs, but also in inefficiency and an increased carbon footprint. The challenge was clear: a structural solution that combines performance, flexibility and sustainability, without disrupting day-to-day operations.
Smart LED solution as a lever for flexibility and control
Encon developed and implemented a completely new LED lighting installation that meets the strictest international standards. The solution not only offers higher light intensity and better distribution, but also makes it possible to easily manage different lighting scenarios via an intelligent control system.
Whether it’s a top-level sports match, a concert or a construction phase: the lighting is perfectly tailored to the activity. Moreover, the installation was completed in just 10 days, without impacting scheduled events.
This approach demonstrates how a well-considered investment in technology leads to greater operational control and future-proofing.
Lower costs, higher returns and a sustainable impact
The switch to LED results in energy savings of around 50%, whilst light quality and capacity have improved significantly. This translates into an annual CO₂ reduction of 82 tonnes and a structurally lower energy bill.
In addition, the recurring costs for temporary lighting are eliminated entirely. The arena can now independently meet international standards, creating new opportunities for high-end sporting events and media productions.
The result? A clear win-win: lower costs, greater revenue potential and a stronger market position. This is Delivering Profitable Sustainability in action — where sustainability directly contributes to returns and competitive advantage.

The Lotto Arena has transformed its lighting from a cost centre into a strategic asset that combines return on investment, flexibility and sustainability.
