EU Taxonomy: what is it?

The EU Taxonomy is a classification system developed by the European Union to identify and assess sustainable activities. The system aims to provide clarity on which economic activities contribute to mitigating climate change, as well as to ensure transparency regarding their impact on environmental and social objectives. The aim is to steer capital flows towards more sustainable economic activities. The EU Taxonomy focuses on six key environmental objectives.

A benchmark within the property sector

The EU Taxonomy is not just another set of sustainability regulations; it is a benchmark within the property sector. Mandatory for large companies from 2025 onwards, this sustainability legislation defines what constitutes sustainability for assets in Europe. The EU Taxonomy serves as a guide for sustainability efforts within a company and makes it mandatory for all sustainability certificates within the property sector to comply with the EU Taxonomy.

This classification system therefore enables property owners, developers and investors to make sustainability measurable for their property activities.

A golden opportunity

You can view new sustainability regulations as a burden or as a golden opportunity. The EU Taxonomy is a standardised framework for sustainable investment, reducing risks and strengthening market leadership. Embracing the EU Taxonomy not only ensures regulatory compliance but also positions investors to gain access to a growing market of environmentally conscious stakeholders, promotes long-term value creation and delivers a positive social impact.

Workshop Encon

The Encon approach

At Encon, we take a unique approach in which we view the EU taxonomy not merely as legislation, but as a powerful tool that makes your sustainability efforts tangible. Our experts begin with an in-depth analysis of your business operations, assessing the gap between your current situation and the criteria of the EU Taxonomy. From there, we can define an asset strategy for your property portfolio.

We understand the specific context of each business and go beyond superficial compliance. We identify sustainability opportunities and integrate them into your business model for both new and existing assets. In this way, the EU Taxonomy becomes not just a matter of compliance, but contributes to the long-term growth and stability of your business.
