Our experiences

Steve and Gijs shared their first impressions of the event. “The atmosphere at MIPIM is always dynamic and full of energy. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with leading players in the property sector and to gain insights that can strengthen our business strategies and help our clients grow sustainably.”

During the event, Encon took part in various panels and lectures, focusing on sustainability, technological innovation and the future of urban development. “We had interesting discussions on how the integration of renewable energy sources and sustainable technologies can transform the property sector,” added Steve.

Looking to the future

With MIPIM 2024 still fresh in our minds, we look forward to applying the knowledge and insights gained to our projects, innovations and advice to the sector. ‘Events such as MIPIM offer us the opportunity to look ahead and anticipate the evolving needs of the property market. We are excited to translate the ideas discussed here into concrete solutions and strategies that contribute to a sustainable and resilient future,’ concluded Gijs.

MIPIM 2024

During MIPIM 2024, it became even clearer that the property sector is placing increasing importance on sustainability and circularity, with a conscious approach to materials and resources at the heart of this. The importance of the relationship between offices and their surroundings, community and well-being was emphasised, demonstrating that property developments are no longer isolated entities, but an integral part of society. This shift is also evident in the residential sector, where the focus on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria is growing, with sustainability seen as a balance between economic, ecological and social aspects, which is becoming essential for affordable housing.

Furthermore, it appears that sustainability is not merely a moral consideration but is also receiving a financial boost, as banks and investors increasingly link ESG criteria to financing, such as through green loans and compliance with the EU taxonomy. This leads to business growth and provides leverage for developers and investors seeking to distinguish themselves by applying ESG criteria.

Whilst large corporations are setting the course for the implementation of ESG principles, the property market in Europe is expected to continue evolving, with significant support for property labels and a growing realisation within the sector that sustainability is the future. For many, however, sustainability remains a broad and sometimes unclear concept, creating a need for greater clarity and guidelines to help see the wood for the trees.
