Distrilog has been a well-established player in the logistics sector for many years, with an extensive network across the Benelux. However, the environment in which the company operates has evolved rapidly. Major retailers and international customers increasingly expect robust sustainability performance, while regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) are placing additional demands on businesses.
This created a twofold challenge for Distrilog. On the one hand, the company needed to make its operations more sustainable without compromising operational efficiency. On the other hand, there was a need for clear strategic direction: how do you ensure that sustainability is not merely a compliance exercise, but an integral part of your business operations and growth strategy?
There was also an important underlying reality. Sustainability is not an isolated project; it affects the entire organisation and requires both strategic decisions at management level and consistent implementation across day-to-day operations.
From Isolated Initiatives to an Integrated Approach
Together with Encon, Distrilog chose an integrated approach in which strategy and implementation reinforce one another. Rather than launching isolated initiatives, the focus was placed on a structured process with clear priorities and measurable outcomes.
The collaboration began with building insight. Energy audits and analyses identified concrete opportunities for optimisation. Based on these findings, targeted measures were implemented, including energy-efficient lighting, solar panels and the first steps towards fleet electrification. Infrastructure projects, such as temperature-controlled storage facilities, were also incorporated into the broader sustainability strategy.
What made the difference was the combination of pragmatism and strategic vision. Encon not only advised on technical solutions but also supported Distrilog in developing a long-term sustainability roadmap and a structured approach to regulatory requirements such as the CSRD.
As a result, sustainability evolved from a collection of individual initiatives into a firmly embedded component of the company’s business strategy.
From Compliance Requirement to Competitive Advantage
The impact of this approach is clearly visible. Operationally, it has resulted in more efficient energy use, lower operating costs and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
However, the greatest value lies in Distrilog’s strengthened market position. The company now presents itself as a forward-thinking and reliable partner for customers who are placing sustainability increasingly high on their agenda. This not only reinforces existing customer relationships but also creates new business opportunities.
The approach also strengthens confidence among financial partners and other stakeholders. A clear vision, supported by tangible actions and measurable progress, demonstrates that Distrilog is well prepared for the future and actively manages both risks and opportunities.
Within the organisation itself, the process has driven a fundamental shift in mindset. Sustainability is no longer viewed as an obligation but as a catalyst for innovation, resilience and long-term growth.

“The common thread? Encon offered bespoke solutions tailored specifically to our needs. But it went further than that. It focused on the long-term impact, guiding us in defining and implementing sustainability goals that were not only aimed at cost savings, but also at improving environmental performance and strengthening our position as a sustainability leader in the sector.”
