Petersime, a world leader in incubation technology, is renowned for its hatchery solutions used worldwide. Although its market position is strong, the company faced a new challenge: its parent company, TBG, a Swiss financial holding company, is subject to CSRD requirements and requested that all its subsidiaries provide input on material sustainability issues. However, Petersime lacked the in-house expertise to systematically integrate sustainability into its business operations. The question was clear: how could Petersime meet its CSRD obligations while simultaneously creating real value for the business?
Petersime discovers new opportunities through double materiality
We guided Petersime through a tailored approach that combines sustainable growth with business performance. First, we analysed the existing business model and strategy to identify how sustainability could be naturally integrated into the company’s operations. We then focused on stakeholder engagement: by actively involving customers, suppliers and other relevant parties, risks and opportunities emerged that had previously been outside management’s field of view.
In addition, we conducted a double materiality assessment. This revealed both how Petersime impacts society and the environment, and how external social and environmental factors affect the company, including its financial performance. It became clear that significant opportunities exist within the circular economy, such as entering new markets through the use of recycled or renewable materials. At the same time, risks were identified, including the growing tension between sustainability objectives and animal welfare concerns, as well as changing dietary habits among Generation Z consumers. These insights were then presented clearly to management, enabling them to translate the findings directly into concrete actions.
Cost savings, risk management and new market opportunities
Thanks to our collaboration, Petersime is now able to fully comply with TBG’s CSRD requirements, thereby avoiding potential fines and reputational damage. However, the impact extends far beyond compliance. By integrating sustainability into its strategy and identifying priority material topics, Petersime can realise tangible benefits, including cost savings through more energy-efficient processes and more efficient use of raw materials. At the same time, risks such as shifting consumer preferences and climate-related cost pressures can be managed more effectively, while opportunities for innovation become more visible.
Moreover, investments in environmental and social initiatives can translate directly into financial returns. By aligning sustainability with business strategy, Petersime improves operational efficiency, strengthens customer loyalty and unlocks new market opportunities. For example, the company can develop products with a lower carbon footprint or offer circular solutions that both reduce environmental impact and create new revenue streams. In this way, economic progress and social impact reinforce one another, ensuring that sustainable business practices contribute directly to the company’s profitability and long-term competitiveness.
